Buying Guide: Buying Laptop week 17, 2009
This a point which lies just outside the usual on Eee BC blog: This time it's not just about Asus Eee PCs, but generally the purchase of laptop. Where to get the most laptop for the money? What is the best purchase of laptop? Which laptop should I choose? It is probably the most typical questions you get, but there is no single answer to the question. It depends on the requirements and use situation in which machine best buy.
Here's my round-up of purchase recommendations if you need a new laptop - and this applies both netbooks and plain. Portable PCs (called notebook or laptop) - but all in mind that you must have much money. ![]()
Some notebook PCs have been found as demo machines (that they have previously been used and such exchanged or returned exclusivity with error, after which the error is corrected and they put up for sale again). They are therefore a bit cheaper than you might. can find them at www.edbpriser.dk
Cheapest 10 "mini-notebook (netbook):
Asus Eee PC 1000H : Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz, 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM, 10 inch screen, 160 GB HD, Windows XP Home
- A bit more "clunky" than the other mini-notebooks, but with better battery life than most:
Kr 2470, - (without VAT: 1976 -)
Best 10 "mini-notebook (netbook):
Asus EEE PC 1000HE : Intel Atom N280 1.6 GHz, 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM, 10 inch screen, 160 GB HD, Windows XP Home
- The new model of the above, better design, slightly smaller, lighter and even better battery. There are still more handy netbooks than this, but it is a clear favorite because of the good battery and good keyboard, etc.:
Kr 2900, - (excluding VAT: 2 320, -)
( It costs DKK 100, - more in white here )
Greatest 10 "mini-notebook (netbook):
Asus Eee PC 1002HA Intel Atom N280 1.6 GHz, 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM, 10 inch screen, 160 GB HD, bkluetooth, Windows XP Home
- Very nearly the most slimline mini laptop, you can get with 10 "- with the beautiful design lines that are known from the Asus Eee PC S101, just much cheaper. But with poor battery than the above because it is so thin ..

Cheapest "ordinary" LIGHTWEIGHT-laptop:
Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-15M : 13.3 "(1280 x 800) TFT screen, Intel Pentium Dual Core 2 GHz CPU, 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM, 160 GB HD, Intel GMA 4500MHD onboard graphics, free choice ml. Windows Vista Business / XP Pro
- Is an ordinary PC, ie. faster than the above netbooks mainly due to much faster CPU (CPU is known as brain / motor in the machine) and with DVD burner, etc., but still with a small 13-inch screen and weighs only 1.9 kg, ie . it is a handy little machine which weighs slightly less than than the MacBook (though it does look much more clumsily out). Probably not quite small enough to be counted for a subnotebook, but clearly easier to tow with the Uni / school / work every day than the ordinary "skrumler" of laptops .. ![]()

Cheapest DISCOUNT-portable:
Acer AS5310-301G12Mi 15.4 " 15.4 "WXGA TFT, Celeron M520 1.6 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB HD, DVD burner, Intel GMA 950 onboard graphics card, Windows Vista Home Basic
- Demo-portable PC (with full warranty) with Celeron CPU, which is the "discount" type, 1 GB RAM, which is too little for Windows Vista. It is a slow machine, but you might just use it to go online. IF I were to have the cheapest possible machine at all, would I still clearly offer the 400 - more and take the next machine just to get some more power out here because it certainly can come to seem a bit dull just to start up and get Internet Explorer up on the screen ..
Kr 2299, - (without VAT: 1840 -)
Acer EX5220-302G12Mi 15.4 " : 15.4 "WXGA CrystalBrite, Celeron M 560 2.13Ghz CPU, Mobile Intel ® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 shared onboard graphics, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB HD, DVD burner, Windows Vista Home Basic
- Demo Notebook PC (but with full warranty) still with the bad "discount" CPU Celeron, but now with 2.13 GHz and 2 GB of RAM, which should be more suited to Windows Vista. It should be excellent for surfing the web.
Kr 2699, - (excluding VAT: 2 159, -)
Cheapest laptop with OK Hardware:
Acer AS5735Z-324G32MN 15.6 " : 15.6 "WXGA screen, Pentium Dual Core T3200 2.0GHz CPU, onboard graphics card, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, DVD burner, Numeric keypad, Bluetooth, Vista Home Premium
- Demo portable machine (with full warranty) with newer / faster CPU than the model above at 2GHz and plenty of RAM to pull it a little heavy Windows Vista. Although both this and the above machine is ca-2 Ghz you must note that the type who sits in this machine is almost twice as fast / efficient as a Celeron! You can not compare the Ghz CPUs are not the same model / type. Graphics card is an embedded one of its kind, so it's no good to the latest 3D games, but it will be super for office tasks, images, network tasks .
Kr 3699, - (excluding VAT: 2 960, -)
Acer EX5420G-553G32Mi 15.4 " : Display 15.4 "WXGA, Turion 64 X2 TL-62 2.1GHz CPU, Graffikort ATI ® Mobility ™ Radeon ® HD 2400 XT 256MB VRAM, 3GB RAM, 320GB HD. DVD burner, Bluetooth, Vista Home Premium
- Portable PC which is also a demo machine (but with full warranty) which is very similar to the above. CPU is correspondingly strong, but there is a little less RAM with 3 GB, but then a separate graphics card. This will be a little better in recent games - but maybe a little slower, for office tasks and surfing the 'mil tions "of open tabs because it has the 1GB less RAM ...
Kr 3999, - (excl. VAT 3199, -)
( Some of the same for the same price but with 17 "also available here )
Crazy laptop to play the latest games:
MSI Gaming GX620-059NE : 15.4-inch display, Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz), 4GB DDR2 RAM, 320GB HD, Nvidia 9600M GT m/512MB, 1, DVD burner, Vista Home Premium
- On paper, could this machine recall the above, but the second is the CPU of the best kind (maybe 50% better than above) and especially the graphics card of a different caliber: Here we talk some of the best graphics card you can get reasonable money in a portable, so you should be able to play a lot of new games on this laptop.

Laptop PC with delicious designs:
White Apple MacBook 13-inch TFT display, 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 120GB HD, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
- MacBook'en is a relatively powerful PC with the same type of CPU as in the above machine but at a slightly slower version, and with less RAM and less powerful graphics card - it's the onboard-type, but at least currently the strongest onboard graphics card on the market.
Many, inc. "Primarily" myself
, Still think that the white MacBooks, the notebook PC market that has the most beautiful designs! So although there has been new model in aluminum, which you certainly should consider if you just want the latest (including faster type of RAM on the motherboard), then it is the white Apple MacBook is made here, first and primarily because the white MacBooks are also significantly cheaper than the new aluminum. General information about the MacBook's can say that they have fairly good characteristics and that their hardware is working optimally - which gives the feeling that they have a tooth faster than ordinary PCs with similar hardware. They are also great noise. However, one should carefully consider whether you have the energy to learn a new operating system because they do not come with Windows but with Mac OSX. You can easily install Windows on the machines, but must say even "put up with it."

The conclusion:
The conclusion must be that there is plenty to choose from! :-)
Personally I would be able to cut the choice down further. The netbook category I would unhesitatingly opt for the Asus EEE PC 1000HE.
For ordinary. laptop I'd choose:
Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-15M, where it should be easy to transport
Acer AS5735Z-324G32MN 15.6 "if I" just "should have maximum benefit for the least money.
In the design category are Apple MacBook alone back as normal. portable, but if a netbook can cover your needs (for example, that still only works with normal temperature. office tasks, email and surf), then an Asus Eee PC 1002HA netbook be a very strong joker!
